Some months ago there were terrible events in and around Carcassonne and I did an Instragram week because I wanted to show the city as wonderful as it really is. Here, at last, is a blog with those Instagram posts. It has been a few years since we visited and I don’t know if my overview image from the old medieval city does it justice but it is worth a visit.

Looking back towards Cité de Carcassonne, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, during a leisurely stroll along the Aude before taking a seat on this bench where, it looks to me, like many Romans had also relaxed many centuries ago.

Loved the wall here in the old city so had to take a picture. And then, unbeknownst to me, really, turns out there was a wine bar also in the image. What a coincidence for wine Wednesday. Of course I had no involvement with this wine bar, really didn’t even notice it, just entranced by the stone wall … nothing at all to do with wine, wine never even entered my mind … or is this starting to sound like a case of he who “doth protest too much, methinks.”

A nice little diversion of L’Aude near the walking bridge, Pont Vieux, essentially between old city and centre ville, where you might want to do a little shopping if you’re so inclined.

Lots to do in this interesting French city and, therefore, yesterday I was starting to be drawn away from the medieval citadel going towards centre ville. The old city is, however, the main attraction so I decided to end the week with a view of the outside walls centred by one of the impressive towers.
