Arc de Triomphe image, February 19th
From Arc to Arche; from the top of the Arc de Triomphe de l’Étoile looking toward la Defense and the Grande Arche de la Defense. Looks like I’ve taken to the high ground to plot my trip to la Defense. Will it be walking, RER or metro? I like the walk with a bit of a side trip into Neuilly-sur-Seine, the first Paris banlieue just west of Paris from the Arc.

What else is there to see from the top of the Arc. Well from here I see Église Saint-Pierre-de-Chaillot, the American Cathedral in Paris, the golden Dôme des Invalides and Tour Montparnasse but that’s about it I guess.

And another Arc to, this time, Arc; from Étoile to du Carrousel to complete the line of the three Arcs. Carrousel is nicely bracketed here by the Egyptian Luxor (where it was originally from) Obelisk / Jardin des Tuileries in the foreground and something called Musée du Louvre in the background, where you could easily get yourself lost.

And to the north, there it is, the well-known Mount of Martyrs. Looks like they built a pretty nice basilica, back in the early 1900’s, there as well. I hear it is called Sacré-Coeur. I understand, however, a number of places of worship previously stood there including pre-Christianity ones. Personally though, I can’t vouch for that; not quite that old. It also looks like nice high ground to go and take a picture back to the Arc. Maybe next time.

Now, I’m told, picture taking time is over. Apparently it is Champs-Élysées shopping time. Just have to figure out a way through that traffic. Maybe under the traffic might work.
