“At night I would climb the steps to the Sacre-Coeur, and I would watch Paris, that futile oasis, scintillating in the wilderness of space. I would weep, because it was so beautiful, and because it was so useless.” Simone de Beauvoir, Memoirs of a Dutiful Daughter. I had to give Simone de Beauvoir equal time since I recently posted a quote from her partner, Jean Paul Sartre. Or, with her reference to the steps of Sacre-Coeur, perhaps I just wanted to post a picture overlooking Paris from those steps.

Those vineyards produced that wine, which seemed to go well with this book. With the new Dan Brown novel coming out in the fall and this combination working with his last one, I guess that just means I need a trip to Saint Emilion to pick up this appropriate wine pairing for the new book. Pure logic. Well perhaps a Saint Emilion Grand Cru isn’t my typical book reading wine (or most anything else other than special occasions) but the idea sounds nice. … As does the idea of going back to Saint Emilion.

Thank God, I can look at a sunset now without having to think how to describe it.
W. Somerset Maugham – Me too, because I took a picture. Hmm, guess that doesn’t work for writing a book.
