What else to do in Paris – Perhaps some shopping
But for Paris shopping beware ‘Point Rouge’
Not really, just be aware. This is something you will see in department stores in Paris that offer discount cards but Paris shopping in department stores can add some benefits. The discount cards, however, that you receive at many hotels or can get at the store itself, such as Galeries Lafayette, do have the ‘point rouge’ caveat. Many brands, including most big names, are excluded from the discount as ‘point rouge’ areas. The “point rouge’ sign is usually at the service desk for each boutique or ask to be sure. I was recently pleasantly surprised that my current favorite, Cerruti 1881, was not excluded at Galeries Lafayette. Still the “Grands Magasins” do offer access to many of the name brands that one would be exhausted trying to hunt down individually. In addition, with the proper dollar value, they offer ‘de tax’ services. This is the tax refund. Many individual stores will do the ‘de tax’ as well but you would have to reach the dollar value in each shop where, with only a few exceptions, one day of shopping can be accumulated in the “Grands Magasins.” Now, it may not be hard to reach the value in most individual shops (this is Paris) but the accumulation that goes with one stop shopping is a time saver. Personally, given time, I like the individual boutique stores but the convenience of the “Grands Magasins” can not be overlooked.
Paris shopping, you just need to be aware.
